We got a fantastic new game this week called Evolution. My son and I have played it twice so far and really look forward to playing it again. It is a 2-4 player game of survival of the fittest, using cards to determine the food supply plus your creatures’ eating habits, fertility, defenses, and attacks. Playing by the rules was straight forward, but adapting to the constantly changing conditions took skill. My son trounced me both times, even after being certain he was going to lose in the middle of the second game. Lots of critical thinking needed to play well!
My daughter and I hung out outside while J. grilled. We practiced ukulele, played Appletters (she is acting out the word “stab”), and enjoyed throwing and hitting some whiffle balls.
The kids have gotten back into playing “Animal Crossing” on the Game Cube. This game was a big hit when they were little. In fact, it was probably some of the earliest reading my son did. Much fun can be had collecting stuff to sell, fishing, creating insect collections, sending mail, decorating your home, interacting with townsfolk, etc. It is nice for me to see them spending time 1 on 1 with each other.
Night brought a bonfire and roasted marshmallows. It was a pretty great day 🙂
